Research and Development Station for Aquaculture and Aquatic Ecology Iași
The station’s profile is scientific-didactic, with fundamental and applied research on preserving the quality of the aquatic environment in fish farms and public waters, modernizing fish technologies and developing high-performance fish feed recipes.
Research and technology transfer center in aquaculture and aquatic ecology – CETACVA
Research and technology transfer center in aquaculture and aquatic ecology – CETACVA aims to develop the regional capacity for research-development and technological transfer in the field of aquaculture and aquatic ecology. Within the center will be created 6 RAS systems (recirculating aquaculture system) and 4 laboratories.
The locations for the project implementation are: Research and Development Station for Aquaculture and Aquatic Ecology-Iasi (SCDAEA), and “Petru Jitariu” Biological Station Potoci – Neamț (SBPJ) within the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University.
Research directions:
- Development of RAS technologies using 6 RAS systems.
- Artificial reproduction of freshwater fish.
- Physiology of aquatic animals.
- Aquatic ecology.
- Microbiology and molecular biology.

Biological Research Station „Petre Jitariu” Potoci – Neamţ
https://www.uaic.ro/organizare/statiunea-biologica-petre-jitariu-potoci-neamt/
It is located on the southeast shore of the reservoir Lacul de acumulare Izvorul Muntelui – Bicaz in Neamţ county. It was originally founded in response to the environmental changes caused by the hydro-power complex in the area (the dam and the reservoir). Its mission is scientific, educational and applied: it supports field practice for students, and carries out research on aquatic ecosystems and water quality. It houses the Laboratory for Evaluation of Water Quality through Bioindicators – ACVAPUR, which uses aquatic organisms (phytoplankton, zooplankton, zoobenthos, fish) to assess the pollution level / ecological status of the reservoir water. It enables student practical training (fieldwork, experiments in limnology / hydrobio) in a real aquatic environment. Because the reservoir was formed by hydro-electric development, monitoring its ecological status is vital for ensuring the water is safe / healthy, especially for communities, aquatic life, and possible uses (recreation, fish farming). By training students in field methods and ecosystem monitoring, the station contributes to capacity building in environmental protection and sustainable management of aquatic systems.
